Factors In Choosing An Amsterdam Accommodation

Many tourists choose Amsterdam as their travel destination for different reasons. Some want to be in Amsterdam to see a fusion of an old yet charming European city and a very modern metropolitan. Some want to behold the magnificent architecture of some historic as well as modern buildings erected in the city. Some want to see how similar or different Amsterdam may be to Venice. Some just want to experience and witness the tolerant attitude of this city towards prostitution and soft drugs. The braver ones come to Amsterdam to feel the thrill of the famed Red Light District of the city. With all these people traveling to this city for a variety of reasons, it is not surprising that some may find it difficult to book their Amsterdam accommodation.

Every year, an estimated 42 million international tourists come to Amsterdam. To cater to all the lodging needs of these guests, there are over thirty thousand registered hotels and hostel beds that can provide Amsterdam accommodation for them. Almost half of this number consists of four- and five- star hotels. All hotels in Netherlands are classified according to the Benelux Hotel Classification System. Using this system, a hotel gets a star if it qualifies some criteria. For hotels that provide minimum amenities, they are categorized as one star hotels. On the other hand, hotels that provide deluxe and luxurious services are classified as five-star hotels. The hotels in Amsterdam are concentrated in the downtown area, in RembrandtPlein, in Leidspelein and along the Damra main steet. Hostels, on the other hand, are commonly found surrounding the Amsterdam Centrum, in the Warmoesstraat area and in the Red Light District.

The rates of an Amsterdam accommodation vary depending on the season and the kind of hotel or lodging place that the tourist had decided to stay in. During peak seasons in July until August and during summers and holidays, Amsterdam accommodation rates are more expensive. However, during non-peak season, which occur between November 1 and March 31, and during weekdays, the rates are significantly cheaper. For a room in a hostel, the charge is usually around fifteen (15) Euros during regular days and thirty (30) Euros during peak season. For budget or one- and two- star hotels, accommodation costs range from forty (40) to one hundred (100) Euros per night depending on the season. Hotel prices for three- and four- star hotels, on the other hand, range from one hundred (100) to two hundred (200) Euros every night. For five star hotels, rooms charge from one hundred fifty (150) to four hundred (400) Euros a night.

The choice of what kind of Amsterdam accommodation depends on the traveler himself or herself, as he or she would deem fit for his or her budget, itinerary and personality. A tourist however, does not have to spend a lot in order to have a comfortable Amsterdam accommodation. Regardless of the rates that are charged, most of the city hotels are clean, nicely decorated, and offers all the basic amenities that tourists need.
